Painting in Watercolours was mastered by British artists in the 19th century . Whether the medium was so favoured is down to the Weather (number 1 topic of conversation) or the British temperament is unknown. But painting in watercolours is a highly skilled discipline, using subtle colour washes to capture the mood of a scene. The 20thc saw a much looser style in fashion.
You will notice some of the drawings are "attributed" to an artist. This is due to the fact that it is unsigned but bears close resemblance to the style of painting used by that particular artist. Any number of accomplished artists never signed their work, especially in the 18th century. I buy on the strength of the work. Please click on the images if you wish to enlarge them.
