Ernest Henry Griset was one of the 19thc best known comic illustrators. This drawing dates from c.1865 is signed bottom left and inscribed bottom right. In good unfaded condition, it has a littlefoxing but that is always the case with Grisets drawings. A good example of this increasingly sought after artist's work.The paper is watermarked 1865. It was drawn from life at the Regents Park Zoo shortly after Griset had come to London.

A splendid watercolour of Chamois Shooters in the Tyrol. Painted c.1814, it is unsigned but has very strong clues to the fact that it is by Samuel Howitt. The animals are very stylised and the treatment of the figures also help to point to him. In good clean condition. There is a pair to this at the same price, entitled "Ascending the rocks". It was bought at Sothebys in London in the mid 1990's.

An important historical drawing of the inundation of Lulworth cove on the 8th September 1826.By a skillful artist it is unsigned, as is often the case with drawings of this vintage. Verso is a drawing of the ruins of the castle on Portland Island. In good condition, but it has yellowed a little with age.

A splendid watercolour of a wolf and goats. Painted c.1800, it is unsigned but has a good provenance that it is by Samuel Howitt.It is ex-collection Walter Faulkes of Fearnley Hall and Luke Gertler. The animals are very stylised and help to point to him also. In good clean condition, it has a slight stain in the sky top right.
